13 year old vegan takes State title
Thirteen year old vegan Cody Elkins has won the California State Junior Racquetball Championships in the doubles. Playing with his partner from the Junior Olympics, Camila Gomez, he won the intermediate division, undefeated.
“It felt great to win state championships” he says “especially after coming back down from 14-10 to win 15 -14.”
Cody’s 18 year old brother Dane won the advanced division.
Last year was a good one for Cody; he became outdoor world champion in his age group, and at the Junior Olympics he was a bronze medallist at the Junior Olympics in the boys 12 and under doubles and a semifinalist in the mixed doubles 12 and under – with Camilla Gomez. He was a finalist in Great Vegan Athlete of the Year. He also took the opportunity to educate friends and family about veganism as he celebrated his Bar Mitvah.
After such a good start, there could be more to come this year from our site’s youngest athlete. He is planning to compete at the Junior Olympics in June and the World Outdoor Championships in July.
